What Regulations apply?
The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.
What is a Gas Safety Inspection?
A Gas Safety Inspection is undertaken with a view to ensuring that a gas appliance is safe to use. The inspection will include:
- an visual inspection of flues for the safe evacuation of products of combustion
- a visual inspection of the gas installation pipe work
- the accessibility of emergency controls
- a gas tightness test
- a check on the equipotential bonding
- the operating pressure
- an inspection of the appliance itself
How often does Gas Safety Inspection have to be undertaken?
On an annual basis.
What documentation should I receive on completion of the Gas Safety Inspection?
Upon completion of the exercise you should be presented with a gas safety record sheet. If necessary a list of defects will be included detailing any items that need to be attended to in order to bring your appliances up to a satisfactory condition.
Who should undertake a Gas Safety Inspection?
A competent engineer who is qualified to the correct Gas Safe level.
Do I need to install a carbon monoxide detector?
Whilst this is not a legal requirement it is highly recommended in order to detect the deadly carbon monoxide gas.
